Opportunities and expected impact

BIID focuses its interventions on projects capable of delivering sustainable economic, social and environmental outcomes. When assessing opportunities, it takes into account not only the project’s viability and feasibility, but also its contribution to development priorities, its local roots and the transformations it is likely to bring about.

In particular, the projects supported are assessed in terms of their ability to improve access to essential services, support economic activity and employment, strengthen local capacities, reduce regional and climate-related vulnerabilities, and encourage new investment. This approach enables BIID to align the project’s financial rationale with its concrete contribution to development.

An institutional building under a blue sky

The BIID focuses its activities on projects capable of delivering sustainable economic, social and environmental outcomes.

Depending on the nature of the operation, the impact may, in particular, take the form of

  • better access to energy, water, healthcare, education, sanitation and transport;
  • job creation, skills development and the strengthening of local businesses;
  • improved productivity, local processing and value chains;
  • strengthening climate resilience and the continuity of services;
  • reducing regional disparities and enhancing the attractiveness of regions;
  • strengthening governance, institutional capacity and operational autonomy.

BIID incorporates these dimensions right from the outset of project design and links them to expected outcomes, indicators and monitoring procedures. Impact is therefore not presented as an abstract promise: it is integrated into the process of analysing, structuring and monitoring projects.
